How to use this college football odds board

The table above lists the current week’s college football card, from Thursday night through the Saturday slate, priced across the sportsbooks that accept U.S. bettors. Switch markets with the Spread, Moneyline and Total tabs. Read across a row to compare books on one game, or down a column to see how one book has priced the week. On the Moneyline tab the best available price on each side is outlined in green.

College football rewards line-shopping more than any other sport. The card is enormous, books cannot sharpen every number equally, and disagreements of a full point or more between sportsbooks are routine.

Why the number matters more than the price

College football margins cluster on touchdowns. Across games in our sample, the final margin was exactly 7 points in roughly 7% of games priced near that number, and exactly 3 in about the same share — and unlike the NFL, 7 is every bit as common as 3. Multiples of seven stay significant well up the board, with 14, 21 and 28 all showing clear spikes.

That means moving a spread from -7.5 to -7, or from +6.5 to +7, changes a bet’s value far more than the half point suggests. When two books post different numbers on the same game, the better number is often worth more than a better price would be.

College football betting lines explained

Every game in the board above is priced three ways — the spread, the moneyline and the total.

Point spread

The spread is the margin the favorite must win by. A team at -10.5 must win by 11 or more to cover; the underdog at +10.5 covers by losing by 10 or fewer, or by winning outright. Both sides are usually priced near -110. Because college mismatches are common and moneylines on big favorites pay almost nothing, the spread is the primary market in the sport.

Moneyline

The moneyline is a straight bet on the winner. In college football these run to extremes — a heavy favorite can be priced at -2000, risking $2,000 to win $100, while its opponent sits at +1000. On lopsided games the spread and the total are where the practical betting happens.

Totals (Over/Under)

The total is the combined points both teams are expected to score. You bet whether the game finishes over or under the posted number — Over 54.5 wins if the teams combine for 55 or more. College totals run higher and vary far more than NFL totals, because pace and quality differ enormously between matchups.

When do college football odds come out?

Most sportsbooks post the coming week’s card by Sunday or Monday, with the marquee games often available much earlier. Numbers move through the week on injury news, weather and betting money, and smaller-conference games can move sharply on relatively little action. This board covers the current week and refreshes daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you read college football odds?

College football odds use American format. On the spread, a team at -10.5 must win by 11 or more; a team at +10.5 covers by losing by 10 or fewer or winning outright. The price beside the number, usually near -110, is what you risk to win $100. A minus moneyline marks the favorite and a plus moneyline marks the underdog.

Why do college football spreads differ so much between sportsbooks?

The college card runs to dozens of games a week, far more than any book can price with equal attention. Smaller-conference matchups in particular are often posted a full point apart at different sportsbooks, which is why comparing the number before betting matters more here than in the NFL.

What is the most common college football margin of victory?

Seven points is as common as three, which is the key difference from the NFL. In our sample, roughly 7% of games priced near 7 finished with a margin of exactly 7. Multiples of seven stay meaningful further up the board, with 14, 21 and 28 all appearing more often than the numbers around them.

When are college football lines posted each week?

Most sportsbooks have the coming week up by Sunday or Monday, and marquee matchups are often priced well in advance. Lines move through the week on injuries, weather and betting action. This board covers the current week and refreshes daily.

Why are college football moneylines so lopsided?

Talent gaps in college football are much wider than in the pros, so a favorite can be priced at -2000 or shorter. At those prices the moneyline returns very little for the risk, which is why most bettors focus on the spread and the total in mismatched games.
